Brand Advertising At Its Best: Geico’s Gecko

Ad spending has got bigger and bigger at around 65% percent since the year 2000, to $2.89 billion. From locum doctors jobs to insurance, every business must advertise to stay alive. One of the major business that does a lot of advertising campaigns is Geico Corp. They have had many different campaigns and even banners on prop planes.
Geico spent around $403 million on their advertising in 2005 and raised this figure by about 20% during 2006. So one can only guess what they are spending these days.
For years Geico relied on direct mail to get their customers. But now advertising is much more effective. They are now using a green Gecko in their campaigns.
The green gecko was an accident. The gecko was supposed to be used for a single advertisement but because of an actor’s strike, they kept using the reptile and now it is very popular as fans started to call and email about it.
Because of the Geico campaign, it has raised the company’s profile. The Richmond, Va., firm has now got other accounts such as Michelin and Morgan Stanley’s Discover Card. So what’s next? Well Geico wants to put their sights in New York with toll plazas and even the George Washington Bridge. It wants to be funny but at the same time, to get noticed in a big way.
They want to try the David Letterman style humor in the future as that is something that the public can associate with. They are also thinking about using pyrotechnics like they used in the ‘Lord of the Rings’. The ads are getting more and more expensive but at the same time will be something that the public will remember.
I am sure that Geico will be milking the Gecko campaign for all its worth and viewers and potential customers alike love the ads.
